Clarity Referrals is an independent, family-owned specialist veterinary ophthalmology practice based in Sherborne, Dorset. Founded in 2025 by James Histed—an internationally recognised expert and the only veterinary ophthalmologist within 40 miles of Sherborne to hold both RCVS Recognised Specialist and American Board Certification status—Clarity Referrals was created to deliver outstanding eye care for pets, with a focus on clarity, compassion, and clinical excellence.
We provide advanced diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of ophthalmic conditions in dogs and cats across Dorset, Somerset, Devon, and the surrounding areas. From cataracts and glaucoma to corneal ulcers, eyelid disorders, tear film disturbances, and complex intraocular disease, we work closely with referring vets to deliver specialist-level care combined with personal, compassionate support.
While we operate from within the premises of Newton Clarke Veterinary Surgeons, Clarity Referrals is a completely independent and family-run business. We are not part of any corporate group and maintain our own clinical team, case management, and referral systems. We’re proud to work alongside Newton Clarke in a friendly and professional capacity, and we’re grateful to share space within their practice. However, all ophthalmology cases seen by Clarity Referrals are managed entirely by our own specialist team, with full independence in ownership, clinical decisionmaking, and client care.
